About Me

Background

I am currently the Principal at The British School, Bern in Rüfenacht, Switzerland, an international day school. Prior to my work at The British School, Bern I was a professor and department head of Communication Studies at Big Bend Community College (BBCC) in Moses Lake, WA. I have my PhD in Communication Studies from the University of California, San Diego. My academic background includes theater arts, intercultural communication, social movement theory, and the intersection of memory, belonging, and nationalism. My current writing seeks to understand the practices of belonging and citizenship, especially as they relate to climate change.

PEDAGOGICAL APPROACH

I use the classroom as a site in which to bring together theoretical and real world knowledge. In order to understand classroom material I work examples from archives, history, and popular culture. I am committed to hands on engagement from the students in terms of projects, feedback and interactive in-class sessions. My goal is a classroom that is designed as both a workshop and seminar. I have taught both entry level and advanced communication courses across community colleges and universities.
